At least five militants of the Islamic Hamas movement have been killed in two separate Israeli airstrikes in the northern Gaza Strip.
The airstrikes came hours after Hamas militants drove bomb-laden vehicles into an Israeli border crossing injuring 16 Israeli soldiers. Three Hamas members died in the attack on the Kerem Shalom border crossing between the southern Gaza Strip and Israel. Hamas said the attack on the crossing was an attempt to break the nearly yearlong blockade of the territory. Hamas took control of the Gaza Strip in mid-June last year following weeks of heavy fighting with rival Fatah forces.
