Talks between Ver.di and Germany's postal service, Deutsche Post, broke off on Saturday morning. The union has rejected an offer that management says would amount to a 5.5 percent pay increase and involve a half-hour increase in the working week. Among other things, Ver.di is seeking a seven per-cent pay rise. The union has threatened to call open-ended strikes next month, unless Deutsche Post meets its demands.
