Steinbauer is serving a 13-year prison sentence for the second murder of a girl aged 16. He had been acquitted of the charges that he strangled a woman, 24, for lack of proof.
Last year, the court reopened the case and meted out a life sentence for Steinbauer, but its verdict was cancelled by the high court. The high court called some new evidence, on the basis of which the regional court meted out the life sentence, pure speculations. It returned the case to the regional court and ordered the review of indirect evidence.
