Czech Greens to hold party referendum on radar after NATO summit ... German Chancellor Angela Merkel has pledged to support Colombian President Alvaro Uribe in his government's efforts to establish its authority throughout the violence-plagued country.
Following a meeting with Uribe in the capital, Bogota, Merkel said it was important for Colombian authorities to come to terms with its history of right-wing paramilitary death squadrons. Uribe rejected charges that he has not been tough enough in prosecuting right-wing paramilitary leaders. Earlier in the week, Colombia extradited 14 paramilitary leaders and drug dealers for prosecution in the United States. Merkel's visit is the first ever by a German chancellor to Colombia.
